CYPRUS JOINED
THE E.U
In 2004 Cyprus joined the E.U.This
is regarded a a significant achievement, since the boundaries
of Cyprus's economy have now expanded enormously. Due to its
location Cyprus is a vital link between the E.U, Middle East
and Africa.
The countries that joined on 1 May are: Cyprus,
the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta,
Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The EU's membership list jumped from 15 countries to 25. Its surface
area increased by a quarter, and its population by one fifth, to
450 million.
It is now the world's biggest single market, in population terms,
though the North American Free Trade Agreement remains larger in
terms of economic might.
